SEASON 2012 EVENTS CALENDAR UPDATED

South Coast Rowing Championships & Junior Regatta - Eton, Dorney Lakes

Saturday 19th September saw crews from the Association competing against the Hants and Dorset Association and the West of England for the honor of being South Coast Champions. The event, held at Dorney Lakes, Eton where the Olympic rowing events will be held next year, was the final challenge for the crews. Some of the crews in the championship events had visited the site in previous weeks to get there race plans in order. In the end there can only be one winner and thats the best crew on the day. In the six championship races the coast put up a good challenge with one victory in the Veteran Championships by Folkestone. Bexhill tried there best in the Bideford Bowl for Mens Seniors but were second to a good crew from BTC Southampton in 7mins 32secs. The open events again saw some good efforts but the results went similarly. The only victory went to Folkestone again in the Ladies Senior Fours. See below for the full results.

Southsea Regatta

The 2011 season is just under half way with Bexhill continuing there domination from last year. They are more than double the league and Grand points on their nearest rivals.

The weekends joint regatta with the Hants & Dorest clubs at Southsea only enhanced there standing by taking on anyone and winning. They won no less than nine events and almost claimed the Scot Payne Trophy on their own. It was a shame that one of the other CARA clubs didnt get the extra six points required to make the Trophy the associations! Phil Challen commented: " I can't remeber another club winning that many races at Southsea Regatta."

The Sculling races highlighted the depth of Bexhills Mens squad winning at all levels from Novice to Senior. Kieran Cahill winning the Seniors by 2 lengths from Ollie Hook from Deal, Matt Hellier winning easily with his clubmate Doug Holdaway comming second in the junior sculls and Ben Slater winning by 4 lengths over Ryde in the Novices.

The Senior Titles also headed back to bexhill including the veteran 40+ trophy. Mens and Ladies Senior Pairs wins, CARA clubs Deal (Mens) and Shoreham (Ladies) comming in second in each. Junior Seniors over Lymington by 2 lengths and Senior Ladies over Poole by a length. The Jewel in the crown, the pompey grand, must have looked like it was a lost goal with Bexhill being third at the turn and two lengths down to Itchin and Coalporters. Not so, A supurb return leg by the Bexhill senior men as the rowed down and passed the opposition.

Well done Bexhill!
